Wooden Canoe
18' Guide Canoe: Perhaps limited
edition
circa 1942
[]
Dear
antiquesofrepublic,
The following website can be helpful in trying to identify an old
canoe:
http://dragonflycanoe.com/id/
According to this site, your guide-model Penn Yan dates
from 1948-1955. The digits in the serial number for this particular
canoe appear to contain no clue as to the actual date. Can you tell if
the canoe ever had seats? We will check our Penn Yan catalogs
to see if this model was offered without seats and get back to you...
but customers could always opt for a seatless canoe. During WWII,
Penn Yan replaced the cane in seats with very hard and ugly plywood
inserts. A 1942 canoe would have had such seats. We will post a link to
your ad on the WCHA Forums and offer to inspect, pick-up, and hold the
canoe if another WCHA member is interested. We live outside Marquette.
Thanks.
